Talk About Quitting Smoking
Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop
Smoking ® seminar has the highest
success rate of any quit smoking method.
You've probably done a bit of research on quitting smoking
methods; you've seen the late-night cable TV ads, you've
listened to some ex-smoker friends and visited a few of the tens
of thousands of quit smoking websites.
Here's a question: how
many of those sites feature their success rate right up front?
How many of them even mention their success rate? And how many
support that claim with hard, physical data? Ever wonder why
not? Read on...
Do the Popular Methods Really Work?
Speaking bluntly, the success rates of most quit smoking methods
are very, very low. That's why they are rarely mentioned.
Pure Will Power: The
generally accepted 12-month success rate figure for a smoker
quitting with no assistance (so-called 'cold turkey') is
3-5%.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy: NRT claims to 'double your
chances of quitting', but that only gives those products a success
rate of up to 10% - and there is a lot of evidence that even
challenges that number.
Alternative Medicine: Hypnosis and acupuncture have been shown
not to be effective for quitting smoking, giving success rates no
different to placebo or to no intervention.
Prescription Medicine: Quit smoking
medications, such as Zyban (Wellbutrin) and Champix (Chantix) show
better clinical results (success in the 15-20% success range), but
the trials include up to 24 individual counseling sessions for the
participants which are not available in a 'real world' situation,
and the drugs have brutal side effects for some.
Here is a list of the side effects along with some consumer
feedback.
All these figures are
taken from the highly-respected Cochrane's Review, the internet's
leading evidence-based medicine resource and you can read these
studies for yourself here (Click
